Agave in Avon, CO

Why is this place not mentioned on this board? We have been coming to Beaver Creek for a long time and had never tried it till today at lunch. It was very good -- especially good apps: Mahi-mahi Ceviche, Guacamole Crudite and Tortilla Soup. Entrees were a couple of soft tacos (shredded beef, which was a little greasy, and marinated chicken that was delicious) and a Fried Cod Burrito, also very good.

Totally different than Fiesta's, but very good. We will be back to it and Fiesta's.

    I had dinner at Agave with a friend a few weeks ago. I thought it was pretty good. Not the best Mexican I've ever had, but very decent. I had the Enchiladas Suizas, which were really tasty and a *very* strong margarita. I did think that "mexican salad" that came with the entree was pretty lame, but everything else was good, and reasonably priced (for a ski town, anyway).

      DD, the problem with Agave is that as the evening goes on, things used to get out of hand. The owners have worked with the Avon PD to get it under control. And they started closing early to keep problems from arising. At dinner, it has a tendency to be more of a place to drink. Its owned by the same folks who have the Mexican stand up in the main Vail parking structure, which has decent food at a good price.

        I wondered if the tequila had something to do with it. When your claim to fame is 150 different tequilas there may not be much of an emphasis on the food, although we did enjoy it for lunch.

          Thanks for the review. I've often wondered about it as I drive past (usually to Dish) but haven't stopped. I'll keep it in mind for a lunch sometime.

            If I were headed to Dish I wouldn't stop.

        Interesting. I ate there last year, and I remember the food being solid but nothing that wowed me. I may have to try it again.
