Take out/Deli near Chevy Chase Village?

My Mom recently moved into Knollwood Retirement on Oregon and Nebraska. Any recs for fun food to take to her near there?
Much thanks and gratitude!

Not far from the excellent Wagshal's, 4855 Massachusetts Ave NW.

OMG! Thanks for the post, finally got there and loved it. Even Mom did! Now I have a terrible craving for their pastrami. You are so lucky to be near them.
        Thanks,

Pumpernickel's, on Conn. Ave by Morrison.
Arucola, one block up from that on Conn. Ave.
        Bread & Chocolate, next door.

In Friendship Heights (which you can reach pretty easily going down Oregon to Western), there's Sushi-Ko, the Booeymonger (for deli), Clyde's, Panera, Cheesecake Factory etc.

Tenley (Oregon to Nebraska) ... Jandara (Thai, but I prefer them eating in, than as carry out), Whole Foods etc.

And if you go through the park, you can get to Silver Spring pretty quickly, and there's all sorts of options there. :)

Specifically in Silver Spring, just two miles from Knollwood: Parkway Deli. Doesn't get any easier (or better).

And there's Red Dog Cafe just a few doors down ... meant to add that one above.

Politics and Prose, on CT just south of Nebraska, has a darling little cafe in the basement. You can have a nice time poring over books and getting a snack there.

Also, in the same strip is Comet pizza and ping pong. I'd steer clear at night, when it would be pretty loud, but it could be a cute weekend lunch place.

Connecticut Avenue will probably be your main artery.

In Chevy Chase the 8540 block has a small Italian eatery with carryout: Marcella's (301) 951-1818

Importantly across the street is an interesting one-of grocery that can provide neat foodstuffs. Chevy Chase Supermarket has a good parking lot:

Where Nebraska crosses Connecticut (5000 block) is Marvelous Market (small with limited offerings): http://www.marvelousmarket.com/produc...

If you’re willing to drive south on Connecticut to the 3300 block you’ll find Vace Delicatessen (202) 363-1999 3315 Connecticut Ave Nw, Excellent carryout Italian Subs, pizza foodstuffs. This block includes the restaurant Dino (Italian) and is across the street from the Uptown movie theatre.

Please let us know if there are any specific goodies (or carryout food) we can help you find near Knollwood.

The Chevy Chase Supermarket has very limited hours. They open at 9 a.m. and close at 8 on weeknights, 7 on Saturday and not sure about Sundays. Yes, like Rodman's, they have some unusual offerings, but like Rodman's, don't ever count on buying anything there. They seem to buy at random. Their deli is actually pretty awful. Marcella's has been very good over the years. The name just changed to Manoli Canoli but it is still run by the daughter of one of the original owners, and apparently is still quite good and the menu is still similar, but they now have Greek dishes, too.
