Le Chef in Southgate - Closed

Was headed to a movie at The Paseo and decided to hit Le Chef for dinner beforehand. We were disappointed to see a white sign on the door, stating that they have closed and they thank all their loyal customers for their patronage. They "hope" to move to another location and said to be on the lookout if that is the case. So my s.o. and I walked over to Thai & Chopsticks for dinner which is in that same plaza. Blah.... and no chopsticks in sight. We had to ask for some. lol

Can't say I'm surprised. This place was so poorly ran, it's amazing it lasted THIS long.
I worked there, a few years ago, as a server. It's my understanding that they had an older location that was always packed, so they moved to the new place... in a not-nice strip mall. What I heard was that the head chef/owner's partner was an investor in that center, so he convinced him to open shop here.
The place was never, ever ever busy. No, wait... once. On Mother's Day. It was run entirely illegally and unethically. I wasn't paid for training. No hourly wage, no tips. We never knew when our paychecks would be coming. No consistency at all with getting paid. We didn't have a bartender. We had to go and hunt down a manager to make a drink, if ordered. Even when you didn't use the bar for anything, we had to tip out the managers. Amazing. I was only about 20 years old. So, if I knew then what I know now, I absolutely would have reported him to the labor board, among other things.
So, who's to say if it was just slow, or if they got shut down for shaddy business practices. Either way, good riddance.
