Looking for a recipe

  • 3

I've unsuccessfully searched Chowhound and the Internet for a German Sausage Soup recipe.

It's described as tender pieces of Weisswurst, Bratwurst, and Knackwurst submerged in a tomato based broth with carrots, onion, and celery.

Anyone out there have a recipe for this?

  1. Hey, safemnt- sorry to say that I do not have a recipe such as you describe- and wasn't able to find on online either). But it occured to me that while we were in southern Germany (Bavaria) last year, we frequently lunched on 'gulaschsuppe'- goulash soup. It was of course different everywhere, but typically had onion, carrot, potato, sausage, and beef, in a tomato/beef broth, with lots of parika (the real stuff- Hungarian sweet and spicy). If you do a search for the above, there are tons of recipes online, and that might be a place to get started.

    1. Couldn't find a recipe, but the exact description you describe is served at Jacoby's German Biergarten in Detroit, Michigan.

      "JACOBY’S FAMOUS GERMAN SAUSAGE SOUP . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $ 2.95
Tender pieces of Weisswurst, Bratwurst, and Knackwurst submerged in a tomato based broth with carrots, onion, and celery. Completely delicious!"
