WHAT?B&B pickles and 'cornichions' from India ?

Of late I've been noticing that more and more of my bread & butter pickles and 'cornichions' are coming from offshore. What is that about? What have other Chowhounds experienced?.
Are there the same controls over the growing conditions (ie; pesticides used etc.),healthy packaging plant monitoring and so on as in North America?

I recently heard this story on NPR about French cornichon farmers having to compete with Indian imports.
