Authentic Thai?

Hi, the gals & I are big Thai fans. Appreciate your suggestions where we can go for good authentic Thai food while we are in town. Prefer downtown location however we are prepared to travel for real Thai.

There really hasn't been a substitute for Sripraphai in my opinion. I just had my beloved Pad Prik King at Spice in Chelsea, and it couldn't hold a candle to Sri's version.

Otherwise, Pongsri isn't bad.

I like Thai Cafe on 2nd Ave btwn 5th & 6th. If you are willing to travel for real thai then take the 7 train to Queens and try Sriphaphai as others have recommended. It's worth the trip.

I'll also agree with the Sripraphi rec.

Another very very good thai place is Jai Ya, on 3rd and 28th. Kittichai in Soho is a scene, and there's a lot more going on there than just the food. I've heard it's good, albeit expensive. But I haven't been there.

I've never been to Chelsea Thai, so I may put that on my list.

Sripraphai in Queens is obviously going to win any contest in the city when it comes to Thai food, but if you're looking to stay in Manhattan, I find Chelsea Thai is probably the most authentic, with the caveat that they can be somewhat inconsistent.
