New Hog Island Deli location at 4th and Lavaca
So after a jog on the trail tonight, I headed back to my office downtown and walked by the Lavaca Street Bar and noticed a sign up - "Hog Island Deli Coming Soon". There is a small unoccupied retail space right next to Lavaca Street Bar that I'd never noticed.
Could it be true? Finally a decent sandwich shop to walk to during the workday.
I wonder if they would be open at night to cater to the drunken 4th street crowd? A philly cheese or italian after a few pints at Fado's? mmmm......

FYI to all you downtown-at-lunchtime CH'ers - The Lavaca Street Bar is now open during lunch to accommodate Hog Island fans who would rather eat there than take it back to the office.

re: rudeboy
According to today's Statesman, "Austinville" (shudder) is still on for this fall. And it includes the Hog Island!

Good news, folks! This location is now open! I'm chowing down on a cheesesteak as we speak. In case you haven't been by there yet, it's just window service, so either call in your order and take it back to the office or you'll have to just wait there on the sidewalk until your sandwich is made.
They also have a late night menu posted on the building for the drunky munchies. Looks like they do pizza, fries and about 4 different hoagies.

Oh. Hell. Yes.
Their cheese steaks are amazing and now this new location will be walking distance from work for me. I can't wait!
I've tried their pasta and wasn't impressed, but it doesn't really matter because they could only sell cheese steaks and still do great.
I hope that they expand and have new spots all throughout Austin!

Well, the mystery got the better of me, so a co-worker and I just checked on this information. The new location on Lavaca at 4th Street should open at the end of March or early April. The original location at 1612 Lavaca will remain open as well. No information on the 183 location.
Looks like we will be spoiled with multiple outposts of HI soon. More cheesesteaks for everyone! Thanks for sharing the good news, LakeLBJ.

LakeLBJ, if you ever jog by their original location at 1612 Lavaca, would you check to see if there's a sign up saying that they're moving? I'm hoping that they're just adding a second location at 4th Street.
