Emme of Capri - Stamford

Has anyone ever been? I did a search for it and didn't see any results. My wife went there with work a few months ago and said it was the best meal she has ever had. She puts it on par or better than Columbus Park and Il Falco. Please let me know your thoughts if you have been.

  1. It doesn't get a lot of discussions on this board, but it's my favorite of the downtown Stamford Italian places (though Columbus Park is a very close second). It is very small (maybe 7 or 8 tables depending how they are configured) and service can be slow, but I have had consistently excellent meals there. I frequently recommend it to friends who are looking for restaurant recommendations, and feedback is typically that they loved the food but thought the service was way too slow. The first time we went to Emme was shortly after we had returned from a trip to Italy, where we found restaurant meals to be much slower paced than what we're used to in the NYC area, so maybe we didn't notice as much, but we enjoy getting to enjoy a relaxing meal without feeling like we're being rushed out so they can turn the table.

Regarding the food: I'm partial to the fried zucchini and calamari appetizer. Very light, and the marinara sauce has just the right amount of kick to it. My husband raves over the salads - he usually gets the one with spinach, pears and gorgonzola.

For entrees, I typically stick with the fish - default is the tilapia with capers, olives and tomatoes. Have also had the grilled salmon and bass from the regular menu. I have never been disappointed.

My husband typically orders either the pastas or meats. My favorite pasta is the fusilli with pesto sauce and grilled chicken, but I am also partial to the canelloni.

I'm not the best food reviewer (I'm a daily lurker on these boards, but very infrequent poster), so I don't know if any of the above really helps, but I highly recommend that you make a visit of your own to try it out. I have had numerous meals at Mona Lisa, Il Falco, Columbus Park (used to be my favorite before I discovered Emme), Siena, Sabatiello's (and Cafe Morelli before then), and I consider Emme to be the best for the quality of the food.

great, thanks for the insight gilly! This pretty much sounds as my wife described it, that is why i wondered why no one here was talking about it. That is definitely the next on the list. thanks again!

I'm glad you guys brought up this restaurant. It has only been mentioned once before, and it's been a few years: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/321484

Always good to have a second, more recent review.

I definitely need to give it a try.

It's so tucked away, I think people just don't realize it's there! I've lived in Stamford for 6 years, but didn't find it til I moved downtown and started walking everywhere.

I would recommend that you call and make reservations for Friday or Saturday nights. It is small and does fill up quickly. I usually call ahead to reserve every time we go, even on Tuesdays or Wednesdays :-)

      2. I have got make act together and after years of saying I've got to go, I finally went - only for lunch, but it was really good! I went for simple - the mozzarella salad and a pannini - all I can say is wonderful. Probably the best in the area. My friend went with one of the pasta dishes and she raved, now I've got to go back for dinner!
