Best BBQ in South O.C. or North Co. SD

Where is the best Bar-B-Q in South Orange County (Irvine South), to North San Diego Co. (Oceanside area). Ribs are what I'm looking for, but am open to other items! I'm not interested in hot wings.

Good places that I know of are Bad to the Bone in San Juan and Lucilles on El Toro Road.

Is there anywhere better in the zone I mentioned?

  1. Beef ribs are my preference, and the best ones in the South OC area are at Ribs on the Run in Laguna Hills. Also have a nice chili bowl.

Been to Bad to the Bone once, and thought it was decent, but not great.

There was Rick's Secret Spot in San Clemente, but it closed in November.

There was also something called Two Guys Grilling at the Hollywood Cafe, as reported by the OC Register, in San Clemente, but this venture was short-lived, being announced in November, but the partnership canceled in December.

Don't know what's in the Oceanside/North SD area.

In addition to any other responses regarding Cali Boy's request for a South County location, I would be interested in learning about ANY good barbecue in Orange County. I mean real, actual, authentic barbecue. I spent a few years in Memphis and I'd love to learn about some secret real deal barbecue joint in the area. I'm by the beach but I'd go pretty much anywhere on somebody's sound and solid recommendation.

p.s. - please don't say Beach Pit BBQ, because it's not that great.

I'll agree that Beach Pit BBQ is just OK.

One of my favorites, and it seems to be a consensus on this board, is Tulsa Rib Company in Orange. Some say it's not authentic BBQ because they don't smoke their meats for the normal 14 hours to be considered BBQ, but their beef ribs are among the best in OC.

I also consider the relatively new Joey's Smokin' BBQ in Tustin to be pretty good stuff. Not the absolute best, but pretty solid stuff for OC.

And the best baby back ribs I've had in OC are at a non-BBQ place called Chicago's Best, which is known more for their Italian beef sandwiches and Chicago dogs. But ever since I've discovered their baby back ribs, which I've had at least 6 or 7 times, it's been consistently fall-off-the-bone tender, and a first-rate bargain at under $8 for a half-rack, which includes an order of their delicious fries, which are among the best I've had, similar to In N Out fries, but better.

Try Smokin' Mo's BBQ in downtown Huntington Beach. It's Memphis-style. I've sampled a great many things from their menu and enjoyed them all: three styles of ribs, pulled pork, tri tip. Sides are tasty, too. I adored the corn muffins and the homemade potato chips; garlic fries were less than stellar.
