ISO Custard Filled Donuts

My girlfriend really loves custard filled donuts but I don't want to pay patronage to "Krispy Kreme." Anywhere in LA do the donut justice?

I'm not a big custard filled eater, but for donuts in general: Stan's in Westwood, Bob's at the Farmers Market and Primo's in West LA are the best.

If she's really into custard, you may want to consider branching off into cream puffs as well and taking a trip to your local Beard Papa.

bob's are yummy. I once had a good one from Viktor Bene's at gelson's, but I haven't seen them in a while.

      What about Fritelli's?

        I'll second Bob's.

If never seen a cream puff she could pass up... other then the ones at "Beard Papa." She really didn't care for them.

The last time I remember her really enjoying a cream puff came from "Yamazaki Bakery" in Little Tokyo.

2nd Primo's the vanilla custard is actually very, very good... its usually found in the fried, flaky turnovers but I think they migh also include them in the donuts... which would usually be my favorites... but at Primos I rarely got past the Chocolate Bars or even better the Chocolate Pretzel Donuts... particularly if you get the timing down right (I believe you can get them right off the tray cart about 6:30 AM).

Stan's has a good custard donut, though I tend to defer to the classic chocolate, peanut butter donut.

Note: The original Stan's is in Westwood (10948 Weyburn Ave.), while there is now a branch out in Thousand Oaks next to Whole Foods (658 North Moorpark Road).

Donut Man of Glendora overfills his donuts in general, and the custard ones are no exception. Makes most shops look like stingy tightwads. If you're into overstuffed custard bombs, you should pay a visit.

The Foster's in Canyon Country - on Soledad and (I think) Camp Plenty - used to make freakishly good cream filled donuts. Haven't been up there in years and couldn't vouche for their current donuts, but if they're even close to what they used to be like you'll be pleasently surprised. Unfortuntely, the other Foster's I'd been to (in Reseda) couldn't hold a candle to the CC one.

The bavarian cream custard donut at Donut Man is like a mutant custard grenade.

Be warned, you literally should only approach it with x-large bib and fistful of napkins in hand. One bite, and you've got custard streaming down your cheeks, hands, lips and basicaly all points south of your nose.

I agree about Bob's in the Fairfax Farmer's Market. And if you get them really fresh in the morning, Vons Bakery has good boston cream custard donuts.
