The bavarian cream custard donut at Donut Man is like a mutant custard grenade.
Be warned, you literally should only approach it with x-large bib and fistful of napkins in hand. One bite, and you've got custard streaming down your cheeks, hands, lips and basicaly all points south of your nose.

The Foster's in Canyon Country - on Soledad and (I think) Camp Plenty - used to make freakishly good cream filled donuts. Haven't been up there in years and couldn't vouche for their current donuts, but if they're even close to what they used to be like you'll be pleasently surprised. Unfortuntely, the other Foster's I'd been to (in Reseda) couldn't hold a candle to the CC one.

I'm not a big custard filled eater, but for donuts in general: Stan's in Westwood, Bob's at the Farmers Market and Primo's in West LA are the best.
If she's really into custard, you may want to consider branching off into cream puffs as well and taking a trip to your local Beard Papa.

2nd Primo's the vanilla custard is actually very, very good... its usually found in the fried, flaky turnovers but I think they migh also include them in the donuts... which would usually be my favorites... but at Primos I rarely got past the Chocolate Bars or even better the Chocolate Pretzel Donuts... particularly if you get the timing down right (I believe you can get them right off the tray cart about 6:30 AM).
