Two Superb CBD Lunches
I recently ate at Luke and MILA for lunch. Both offer fixed priced lunches -- two courses for $15 at Luke and three courses for $20 at MILA -- in addition to an a la carte menu.
Thursday's special at Luke was a delicious bowl of veal cheeks, wild mushrooms and gnocchi. The corn and crab soup had a wonderful seafood broth (no cream).
At MILA, I was glad to see the three course menu from Rene Bistro days. The soup was a silky mirliton and cream puree with fresh Louisiana crawfish. The entree was grilled, smokey quail and rissotto framed in (I believe) a port demi-glace. For dessert, light chocolate mousse and whipped cream, topped with sugared crumbles. The alternative offerings included an interesting salad, filo wrapped redfish, and fresh raspberry sorbet.
We also had a couple of superb CBD lunches. We went to August one Fri. (lunch Fri. only). It was so good, we went back the next week. Not the bargain at MiLa (2apps, 2 entrees, 2 teas $80 pre tip). Well worth it. There are regular mainstays, but the rest of the menu changes weekly. Went to Commanders for lunch a couple of times. Now, that's a steal! 2apps, 2 entrees, 1 dessert (they forgot to bring BP souffle), 5 martinis (total, not each): $50 pre tip. Second visit slightly higher (remembered both desserts). Food was excellent and service was great.
