If you get interested in experiencing wine (and food), you might want to look into the International Wine & Food Society - New Orleans chapter. I see news of their events in the national magazine, and they seem to be very active. Our chapter, in AZ, does about 6 tastings and 4 dinners (or other similar events) per year, however we're hampered by most of the population of Metro-Phoenix leaving town during the Summer.

Wine Institute of New Orleans offers classes.
Martin's has a schedule of events on their website.
Cork & Bottle also does good weekly free tastings.

re: uptownlibrarian
Your link to www.winoschool.com seems to be out of order. Thanks, however, for the Martin's Winecellar link, as it answers a question for me from another thread - the uptown store has opened at 3500 Magazine St. I still recall the Baronne St [?] location, but that was years ago, back when Mr. Martin did his commercials for WDSU, WVUE and WWL.

It's working for me; maybe try again? Here's a link directly to their class listings too: http://www.winoschool.com/discover.html
