After hearing nothing but raves about Osteria Mozza, I decided to bite the bullet, shell out the big bucks and take my boyfriend there for a birthday dinner. I was extremely excited about scoring an 8:15 reservation on a Saturday night and was eagerly awaiting to be wowed by their cusine. Unfortunately, I have to report that I was disappointed by the following: (1) Despite having a reservation for 8:15 and being told on our arrival that our table was being "cleaned", we were not seated until over 45 minutes later; (2) The restaurant was "out of" the entree my boyfriend had wanted to try, and (3) The restaurant was "out of" the pasta we had wanted to try as a first course. So basically, we paid nearly $180.00 for a dinner that consisted of second choice selections and waited a long time to do so. On the positive side, the food we did order was good, not sure it was "spectacular", the restaurant was beautiful and the service was very attentive and friendly. Overall, I have to say I was a little disappointed in my experience, but might be willing to give it another try once all of the hoopla surrounding it settles down a bit.
Call the manager and explain what happ'd -- they owe you a comp something. I had a similar experience at Lucques a few years back and called the manager who was so understanding and apologized, saying they had an off night. They sent us a comp for our next meal which was so smart of them 'cause now Lucques is back in our "special evening out" picks -- without that comp meal (which was amazing), I don't know if they would have gotten us back.
Anyway, call -- you shouldn't have waited so long with a reservation and no doubt, if you were seated promptly, they wouldn't have been out of your first choice.
Btw, we have reservations for my bday in a month -- normally we got to Angelini Osteria which is my fav restaurant in LA. How does it compare to Angelini O (if you've been)?
