Cafe Frida...what's the word?

Friends suggesting it on the UWS. Is it as scary as menupages seems to reflect?

I'm surprised to see all of these bad reviews-we've always liked it. Yes, a little pricey but the food is very good.

Frida is ok, not great. We've started to go to Cilantro, up the street (Columbus and 83rd, where Isola used to be). Better service, better food. OK drinks.

We've been for brunch, not dinner. Pretty good. Service was absolutely horrendous, however.

Great margaritas, legit guacamole, delicious quesadillas, creamy rice is good, too.

It is a little pricey but I really like the soft taco appetizers.

it's typical mediocre mexican and definitely overpriced for what it is.

You should check out Mojitos too. It is on 116st bet 2nd & 3rd ave. The food is fabulous and the drinks during happy hour are 4.00. The portions are great.

In a word? Hallelujah!! I love it. It is very pricey, but the portion size is good. Drinks are very expensive, so I try to hit the place during happy hour (4-7). The tamarind drink is excellent. The skirt steak is delicious. The service has always been great for me.

this place is passable. i sort of like the aesthetics and the margaritas are great.
i went there more often in the past than currently, and i think i still have warm memories of several nice dinners there with great friends. but, trying to be unbiased, i think the food is ok and a bit more pricey than i would like. the service is very mediocre. their sister restaurant (cafe ronda) has better food and i'm hearing their newest place (la rural) is really great. are you looking for UWS mex? this may be the best of the bunch as i prefer it over rosa mexicana. the other option is to skimp on aesthetics and go to noche mexicana for better food but it has absolutely no ambiance. stay away from mama mexico.

If I had my druthers I'd go with a downtown venue, which they seem open to. I have a problem with pricey Mexican, even in a really nice ambiance, after years of getting great Mexican in L.A. for a pittance.
