Dinner suggestion near Bar Volo?

We have friends that are moving away from Toronto and he's a big fan of Bar Volo (Yonge & Wellesley - thanks for the correction, Gary) so we agreed to end up there for post dinner drinks to take us into the wee hours. Any suggestions for where we could have a nice dinner beforehand? Walking distance or v short cab ride? We don't want to eat there as it would be nice to have a special meal. It will be this Friday night, 6 people, not a chain, mains under $25, good wine list would be ideal. Am I asking for too much?? Thank you!

Wish at Yonge and Charles is another option -

In the immediate area, about a two minute walk from Volo, there is Fire on the East Side (http://www.fireontheeastside.ca). This place was a great surprise, or at least it was a year or so ago when we visited. Great Southern/Cajun inspired food, fun drink specials, attentive service. They have a wine list, though I am not knowledgable enough to say whether it is "good".

With a short cab ride you could hit almost any restaurant in the downtown area.

I second Fire On the East Side. Never been disappointed there and sadly don't find that I go there enough.
