Stromboli?

Are there places in LA to get a stromboli? By a stromboli I mean sausage, pepperoni, onions, peppers, and mozzarella cheese rolled into pizza dough and baked as a flat roll -- not deep-fried, not full of ricotta like a calzone.

I miss these from my "yoot" in New Jersey.

Orange County would be best but I suspect that this is one of those things that's not available many places, so will travel anywhere covered by this board.

My favorite stromboli is at Papalucci's in Long Beach.

Papalucci is casual and gets crowded on the weekends. I will be going to 4Kegs this Saturday in Vegas for a comparison.

Mamma Lucco's on Imperial Hwy in Brea (across from Home Depot) makes one though I haven't tried it.

This may be un-Chowhound, but I think Bucca di Beppo has one. I'm not vouching for it, though.

Definitely not OC, but Mama's Brick Oven on Fair Oaks in South Pasadena has one that I really like. Sauce is served on the side.

The Slice (in Playa Vista and Santa Monica) has one, though I haven't tried.

Great call Ubergeek! Now if you can just find me a good hoagie like Lee's I'll be in heaven.

I think I've had the Slices but they don't put the tomato sauce on the inside. I hate the dipping as the distribution is never right so I'm looking for Stromboli with sauce on the inside, like they do out East.

I dunno, Jeffe. I had plenty of Stromboli growing up in New Jersey and Long Island, and I don't recall ever getting much sauce on the inside, if any. Just cheese, meat and dough. And always some sauce on the side.

I've seen it both ways but I prefer SOS.
