Tucker's Bistro Newport RI - Fantastic (long)
Went to Tucker's Bistro for the first time this Saturday and wanted to write a little report because it was so good.
I called on Thursday for a reservation but didn't expect I would need one, seeing that it is Newport in February. However I was told they only had tables available at 6 or 9 pm. I took the 9 pm and was told they would call me if they could fit us in any earlier. I was not expecting that to happen but the restaurant actually did call at 7:30 to let us know we could come earlier. I thought that spoke volumes about the customer service of this restaurant.
We were seated at a large table right at the window. The restaurant is dark, cozy and beautiful and one of the most romantic places I've ever been to. As I have read on previous posts, Tucker was our waiter and he appeared to be waiting on every table on our side of the restaurant as well. It was obvious that he was passionate about the food based on comments he made about our orders. He asked our names and referred to us by name each time he came to the table. I just could not believe he could wait on so many tables, do such a fine job, and still remember our names.
Finally, the food. I started with the pear salad, which had greens, sliced pears, walnuts and gorgonzola cheese. It was so delicious that I forgot to take a bite of my husband's crab cakes, but he said they were very good.
For an entree I had the roast chicken with goat cheese polenta & broccoli rabe. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the polenta was so unusual and a nice change of pace from the typical sides. Hubby got the braised pork shank and I did taste it and it was delicious.
We finished with the apricot, white chocolate and pecan bread pudding, which was the best bread pudding I've ever had. We also had the homemade Bailey's.
I think I can best describe the dishes we had as inventive comfort food. It was all so perfectly done, and paired with the romantic atmosphere and wonderful service, I have a feeling we will be regulars at Tucker's Bistro.
