Fried Chicken in Northern NJ?

Anyone know a place in the NJ area that has good fried chicken? I'm looking for somewhere other than Popeye's or KFC. Hoping there is some little hole in the wall place out there with really good fried chicken.

Friends just told me they had great fried chicken at...ready for this? Pal's Cabin in West Orange.
Iirc, it was $19.99 for a whole chicken w/salad and sides, maybe...? They were really shocked by how good it was.

It's on my list to try without having to go to New York for something similar to Sylvia's or Amy Ruth's.

Two more suggestions for great Bergen County fried chicken: Chicken Galore (used to be Chicken Delight) on Rt. 4 in Fair Lawn makes great fried chicken and other good ol' greasy American foods. The place is literally a "hole in the wall", but they've been there forever (at least 30 years, but probably longer than that), the food is great, the portions are huge, and the prices are dirt cheap. They deliver to quite a few towns in Bergen County too.

Also, Bourbon BBQ in Wyckoff recently added fried chicken to its menu, and this gets my vote for best fried chicken ever. Deliciously moist, with a crispy well-browned coating. I think they charge $5 for four pieces.

I also visited Church's once, but it's too far for me to go to regularly. Great fried chicken, and they're very nice people, with a very loyal following. The mac & cheese wasn't so hot though. (Try CC's Barbecue Pit in Haledon for great mac & cheese!)

Check out Church's (not related to the chain) on Springfield Ave. in Maplewood (could be Union - the dividing line is a bit odd around there) just to the east of Vauxhall Rd. Best I've tasted in NJ.

Agree about Church's. It is in Union, just before the Maplewood border. I live in Union, but never heard about this place until it was reviewed by Pete Genovese in the Star Ledger some years back. Considered by many to be the best fried chicken in the state, everything is cooked only when it is ordered. A good idea is to call ahead. Their homemade sides are very good.

On the same street a few blocks away is Joe's Pizzeria. Excellent pizza. In fact, it is my favorite although I haven't been to the famous places in New Haven or to DiFara's in Brooklyn.

This really brings back memories. I used to go to Joe's back in the 70's and my friends and I worshipped it. When I was in college in New Brunswick I would drive all the way there because there was nothing else that could compare. I have had many of the supposedly best pizzas in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and all over north and central N. J. and Joe's is absolutely the best IMO. Too bad it's just not convenient for me to get out there anymore.

Although I haven't been there in over a year, I remember Indigo Smoke in Montclair having very good fried chicken.
