Red Chopsticks Flushing - Yum
Big shout out to HLing for the recommendation. Had a great lunch there today, enjoying the Taiwanese dishes that we love.
1) Big Intestine Rice Noodle Soup - Broth was a little lighter than I would have liked - a bit on the watery side, but beggars can't be choosers, as I haven't found anywhere else to get this in the NYC metro area.
2) Pigs Feet Noodles - I was looking for the Hong Sao style and this was more medicinal in taste, but very good, wth lots of sizeable chunks of pigs feet. Next time, I think i'd try one of their other noodle soups and I've realized that I'm just not a huge fan of the thin vermicelli like noodles.
3) Stinky Tofu - Best I've had in the city. Could've been fried a little more crisp on the outside, but the inside was perfect in texture. Soft and silky, unlike the ones served at Ay Chung at Flushing Mall. The picked veggies on the side were just the right sweetness and spicyness to cut the soy sauce, and the tofu was stinky without being overwhelmingly so.
4) Beef Stomach - Blah. Not great, not terrible. At $6.50, the most expensive dish and I'd probably try something else next time.
5) Oyster Pancake - Crisp without being too oily, which is a common offense with this dish. I really enjoyed the sauce and chock-full of small oysters, not the big ones which most places I've been to tend to use. My only complaint is that it was a bit eggy - not enough to ruin it, but I'd like to have more of the rice flour part and a little less egg.
6) Sticky Rice Big Intestines - I think this was reheated in the microwave, because halfway through our meal, the rice got sort of hard. Pretty good though, and it's hard to mess up stick rice.
Overall, this is exactly the place I was looking for where I can get all the classic Taiwanese prepared dishes and "small eats." Looking forward to try more dishes next time - especially the steamed fish that everyone seemed to get.
