special decadent dessert for take-out ?

We're looking for something special in lieu of a cake for our small wedding. Some kind of really decadent cake or torte or something. It has to be something we can order to take away or get from a bakery or something. Open to all suggestions. Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who replied. We ended up going to Athan's and after a sugar-coma inducing tasting session of four different tortes, went with a Black Forest torte that was perfect. Everyone loved it at the wedding, our restaurant plated it beautifully for us. We didn't want to do truffles, which were a great suggestion, because we were already having the restaurant (Mistral) make us their perfect macaroons as a closer for the night. Just wanted to let everyone know how that turned out. Athan's had a great selection, made our choice really hard, and were really well priced.

The cookies at Lakota Bakery (Arl Heights) are delicious and highly varied--florentines, macaroons, adult flavor oreos, etc. This might be particularly useful if any of your guests include freaks of nature like myself who don't really enjoy chocolate, but think a lemon macaroon is a thing of deliciousness. Their simplest offering is shortbread cookies, and I'd bet for a special order they could do wedding bells or some such.

In the more Boston, more Chocolate category, dessert diva Lee Napoli has just opened or is abt to open Chocolee - in the south end, maybe?

if you want cake and not cookies or truffles, both athans and party favors in brookline make some gorgeous things you can just pick up or order ahead. sweet tooth in south boston also makes handsome cakes.

The Champagne Truffles from Teuscher on Newbury Street are amazing--everyone I've ever shared these with has exclaimed that they are the best chocolate they've ever had. The Champagne element makes it festive, too.

I have heard good things about this spot, but haven't actually tried their tortes myself. Worth checking out perhaps?

How about a serious amount of chocolate truffles?

I'd be interested in that - just for regular eating. What are your suggestions??

For brick and mortar shops, LA Burdicks is pretty good, although in Boston, I tend to favour ordering on the internet e.g. XOX Truffles or La Maison du Chocolat.

And also in Boston, the hand-dipped bonbons from La Tene Chocolatier in Somerville and online. We got some at the Valentine's Day Open House, and the shells still snap!

Definitely La Tene, if we're talking bon bons, rather than just the classic truffle. Are they using chocolate from Taza now?
