Calgary food Dream......

Is it me or is the Calgary food scene just not what is use to be? I know there are lots of places opening and there are the regular guaranteed great meals places but I have been trying a new place every month and continue to be under whelmed.
What is your last Calgary food dream experience? What I mean by this is the meal that you wake-up in the middle of the night thinking about. That is what we were looking for going to St. Germaine last night and again just average. We started with the stuffed squid (waiters recommendation) it was very chewy after that I had the short ribs which were OK (Brava makes them way better) my wife had the Monk Fish which was not good at all very tough and lacking in flavor and presentation. After the meal we shared the Crème Brule it was good not great. So all in all just an OK dinning experience nothing memorable.
Has anyone gone to a new place that gives you that great dinning experience? Our stand-bys are always Vintage, Brava, Rouge etc. Or did we just hit St. Germain on an off night?

tmac - im just wondering, do you eat out a lot? I find with "western" food - ie bistro, restolounge, continental, "fusion", fine dining, whatever etc... that it all starts to taste the same the more you dine out. There are varying differences in quality and technique, but not enough to generate an aha type moment. Especially at the prices we're expected to pay these days.

I've been getting quite tired of it for the past 2 years or so - i dined at a bunch of Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe over Xmas, and most of them were very uninspired. Perhaps you're just in a general fine-food-funk as i am.

For me, exciting new flavours and tastes now come from ethnic restaurants - not "guaranteed great meal" places with the decor, and the price tag to match.
