I'll be staying near Atlantic Shores Blvd (Near the Dog Track). Can anyone suggest a few casual local restaurants in the areas around the dog track? I'm not interested in the upscale or gourmet Restaurants. Place that you can get a meal for under $30.

My wife an I enjoy authentic local places where the locals eat.

I have researched the boards and found a few places that may be of interest. Please recommend others in the area. Thanks!!

Your list is pretty good, but you can't get a meal at Timo or Martorano for $30. I would also say that Coco's and Gourmet Diner would be difficult as well (especially if you're having wine).

I can't vouch for all of these, but overall that looks like a pretty solid list. Not sure you can get in and out of Timo for $30 though. A couple others I'd add ->

Yakko San - fantastic Japanese tapas.
Captain Jim's - simple fish & seafood (attached to seafood market).
      Jumbo - basic dim sum.
Little Saigon - Vietnamese (mixed commentary).

All in North Miami Beach area.

Heading to Westin Diplomat in Hollywood next week from NYC (we're foodies). Any suggestions for a few more upscale places that might be worth a try? We will have a car, so north and south of Hollywood is fine as well. TIA! Also, looking for great local cuban and a fish shack on the beach as well. Thanks.

          Jennieb,
          In no particular order,
          Fulvio's for Italian
          Lola's on Harrison
          Chef Allen
          Timo
Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak recently opened not too far from Diplomat in Aventura. I have not been but have heard positive things. Just read a review on a local blog

Fish shack- head to Tark's over on US1 in Dania Beach. Counter service type place with great steamed clams. Had 2 dozen for lunch today...

For Cuban in the area you can hit Padrino's. It's on Hallandale Beach Blvd. 1minute from hotel.

Don't forget LeTub for a burger. (5 minutes north of hotel on same street)

Note that OP said "Can anyone suggest a few casual local restaurants in the areas around the dog track? I'm not interested in the upscale or gourmet Restaurants. Place that you can get a meal for under $30." I don't think Bourbon Steak is going to fit the bill.

Correct but I was responding to jennybnyc. I agree that this should probably be a separate thread. That being said, the OP mentioned a couple of places that are upscale. (Timo, Martorano..)

My bad. Though OP should definitely be warned that Bourbon Steak is not within $30 range.

Thank you. Just made a reservation at Bourbon, Trina and Michy's. I will look forward to researching your recs. Thanks very much!

I was wondering about LeTub...good to know it's a winner.I will add this, Tarks and Padrinos to the lunch list.

              Thanks again!

Jennie, I found an online menu for Tark's so you can prepare. The prices are a little off but not by much

Great call on Michy's. If you are willing to head south to Miami I would recommend going to Michael's Genuine over Trina.

Again thanks. How far is Tarks from Westin Diplomat? Is it on the beach? Can't wait for the salad with grilled dolphin!!!!

Unfortunately, it is not on the beach. It's easy to get to from the hotel though. About 7 to 10 minutes. Head north when you leave the hotel on Ocean Dr. Make a left on Sheridan and a right on US1. It will be on your right hand side. Can't miss it.

If you want to have lunch or dinner on the beach near the hotel I would recommend Sugar Reef.
