Sheryl and I had guests from NY and took the opportunity to try Harvey Guss Meats, recommended on here, for the first time. Result: sensational. We had a three-bone prime rib which was as good as any I've ever tasted in a home or restaurant (and we even over-cooked it for a few minutes due to a faulty theremometer). The meat, USA Prime, came from the first (top) three bones of the rib (where New York steaks come from) and was already wrapped for me(per phone order the previous day)on my arrival. It cost 40 dollars exactly for five pounds. I don't know how that compares because I don't buy enough prime (prime) rib, but I'll wager not so badly, considering what you get. The only down side--it's hard to find the place. Hint: it's in an alley just north of Olympic. You go right into the locker for your meat. Friendly service too. Address: 949 S. Ogden. Phone: (323) 937 4622. You have to call in advance.

  1. I don't think you can beat 8 bucks a pound for "prime" prime rib.
