Who can feed me a Razor Clam?

As much as I love Oysters, I feel they get all the good press and clams are treated as second class edibles. I think clams are incredible and get them as much as I can all over town. Yet, in the 20 years I've been eating clams, I've never had, or even seen a razor clam up close. They show up on the Food Network all the time and I'd love to try some.

Anyone had razor clams in LA?

Maki Zushi in Tustin has live razor clams (tairagai) at their sushi bar. You can see them retract into their shells when the sushi chef taps on them.

I was at Mitsuwa supermarket in Little Tokyo about a month ago and they were selling razor clams in the fresh fish/shellfish section.

I've had them at Luques. They are my favorite clam! :)

I've had them, but always randomly, usually as a special; Hungry Cat, Meson G (not around anymore). A quick google search yielded lots of Pac Northwest razor clam info and the "season" seems to be early mid-march. Maybe keep your eyes open thereafter.

Funny, I've always used them for fish bait! Ha, ha...never had a chance to eat them. I wonder if they're similar to Pismo clams in taste?

They're not. And they're at their best treated Basque-style -- lots of garlic -- or as though they were moules, with parsley and white wine and butter.

I've seen them show up as part of a special at Hungry Cat.

Don't know what time of year razor clam season is, or if there is one.
