"Mark All Topics Read" on Hot Posts is not working the same way

If I click on this option on a board (this page, for example http://www.chowhound.com/new_posts/12 ) nothing happens. It used to clear all the "new" tags and show a blank board. Now, nothing seems to happen- the page just seems to reload.

However, if I "Switch Board" back to that board it does seem to have worked.

Actually, you only have to check "Mark topics as read" once. It won't immediately erase from your screen so just go ahead and click "switch board" After reading the next board if you go back to the original topic it will be erased, Voila!

Add my name needing to click twice to get the page to change...does anyone know whether the tech people are aware of this? ...any responses to this thread with info about repair....or just silence?

I'm up to three clicks now instead of two.

Engineering? Moderators? Customer Service? Anyone? At least someone please ACK Chris's post, which has been up since Thursday at noon.

February 18th still no response from the Technical department
and now when I read a "NEW" post and return to the main page the "NEW" is still there on the topic I just read!

I was just about to post the same thing. And in response to shaebones below, the OP [original poster] seemed aware that switching boards and then going back to the previous page showed that the "hot posts" had, in fact, been cleared. The question remains as to why "Mark All Topics as Read" is not working the same way it was before. Surely no one would consider the current workaround an improvement?

I'm sure it's not meant to be an improvement, probably just a glitch. I'll raise a problem ticket for engineering.

Well, it is a three day weekend, so I'd not expect anyone to be working on it :-)

It's annoying but at least it's functional- I can see why something like this might be lower priority. But since it's a recent change, hopefully it's an easy fix to track down and put back the way we all want it to work. If it ain't broke-- don't fix it!

Since when does the weekend begin at lunchtime on Thursday (earlier in the day on the West Coast)? Demanding instant fixes may be unreasonable, but your post wasn't even acknowledged, which is the most frustrating thing of all.

I replied to the post once I'd had a chance to verify the problem and raise a ticket for Engineering. It didn't seem to be a problem that affected how people really used the site, since refreshing page -- which you'd have to do to get new Hot Posts in any case -- made it go away, so it wasn't a high priority item for me to look into.

I left my Hotpost page to look up a restaurant that was mentioned but with which I was unfamiliar....when I hit the "Go back" button to return to the Hotpost page it had erased, saying there were no new posts, and I had not been anywhere near the bottom of this page when I left Hotpost to go to the new restaurants website!...
I think this is more of a problem than you may realize!

That doesn't sound like the same problem other people have been describing.

Hotposts will eventually timeout and mark all the posts as read -- is it possible that's what you experienced?

I AM having the same problem...this was just an additional manifestation of it...... I left the Hotpost screen and came back (within a minute or two) and the problem occured

Ah, you've discovered the newest feature!

I find that clicking "Mark All Topics Read" a SECOND time works. Logging out and back in again has no effect.

Yes, I have to click it twice as well. The first click just refreshes it; I need to click a second time to clear it.

Thanks for posting this, Chris VR. I've had to click as many as four times for the "mark all topics as read" function to work—on each of the many boards that I typically switch to and clear via "Hot Posts." Until I saw this thread, I thought there was a problem with my trackpad.

Is Engineering working on this problem?
