looking for a funky delicious fair priced place with round tables large enough for at least 8 per table for an asian banquet for the new year, preferably in chinatown . could be vietnamese , thai, chinese or malaysian .not a banquet house . we could create our own menu. we try to keep the cost down to $25 (and a byob )per person and have about 10 dishes for 10 people...any recommendations and recommended dishes? thanks

I'm not sure the round tables at Skyway are big enough for 8 (since my group of 12 couldn't fit and sat instead on a patchwork of oblong tables), but we had a really fantastic time last weekend. They will be pushing the more expensive CNY dishes, which we ordered a couple, but its traditional malaysian dishes were better. We particularly enjoyed the rendang, curry fish head, oyster omelette and char kuey tiao. A southeast Asian chinese tradition is to order the yu-sheng (raw fish salad with lots of shredded vegetables) which is overpriced for Skyway but very fun.
Its not BYOB but beers 6 for $12!
