Sand Dabs Revisited

  • m

Somewhere on the board, there was an inquiry about locating sand dabs. Had some recently at the Daily Grill. There they were served with a lemon butter sauce and called Catalina Sand Dabs. Seemed like a satisfactory example of the dish.

Another place where I've found (and had) sanddabs was at The Depot in Torrance. I've only had it once in my life, and it seemed very similar to John Dory. Which I've also only had once.

I think I've noticed it in King's Seafood on Pine Street in Long Beach. But there's a good possibility that I dreamed it.

I have had Sand Dabs several time at the delightful Le Petit Cafe on Colorado in Santa Monica. (Not to be confused with other Petit Cafe's around L.A...)

Also try chez jay in Santa Monica.

Try James Beach in Venice--located in what used to be the West Beach Cafe. Served with amazing spinach too.

      3. Musso and Frank has sand dabs. They are a perfect match with a martini. No need to look anywhere else.

        1. Also served at Cafe Bizou in Santa Monica.
