Eclectic atmosphere, good food, family friendly?

our family is traveling to Boston this coming weekend for a much needed getaway. We were hoping to find some fun, cheap, eclectic, type places that one would not find in suburbia. I would love any ideas. Thankyou!

you don't mention if you are strictly in boston. if you venture out to cambridge, try full moon: http://www.fullmoonrestaurant.com/ it would be impossible for a place to be more family friendly. in combo with decent prices and actually good food... you can't beat it.

We will definately be heading to Chinatown on Sunday for the celebration. Sounds like fun. Thanks for the suggestion.

Nothing says "eclectic" like EVOO. Not sure what you mean by cheap but this place will meet all your other criteria.

East Coast Grill. Not all that cheap (doesn't break the bank either), but you wouldn't find it in suburbia. Certainly eclectic. We just got back from a nice dinner there with our 9 & 11 year old boys.

Dim sum in Chinatown is a fun and inexpensive experience that adventurous families tend to enjoy. The three pushcart-style dim sum favorites on the board seem to be China Pearl, Chau Chow, and Hei la Moon.

Lots of other great non-dim sum options around Chinatown as well.

I think this Sunday morning is the Chinese New Year celebration in Chinatown's streets. It's a lot of fun for the kids with lion dances, firecrackers, drums, etc.

Perhaps Zaftig's in Brookline or Helmand in Cambridge?
