Gimchi on Veterans-- Anyone Been??

I was driving down Vet's last night and about a block or so from Division was a big neon sign for "Gimchi: Korean Cuisine and Sushi" or something like that. I was wondering if anyone had tried it out because I'm dying for some good Korean.

I really liked Gimchi...strongly preferred it over Korea House. Unfortunately, Gimchi is closed now. It shutdown not long ago. .

And luckily Sid Mar's will reopen in its place. It won't be the same not seeing the lake while eating crabs, but I'll still go.

I've been- had sushi and one Korean entree. It's owned by the same owner as Mikimoto on Carrollton, and the sushi menu is pretty close to identitcal, which I think is great. Glad to have a branch of Mikimoto in Metairie.

The Korean beef entree was good.

The decor is terrific, and I really like the bar area. I will definitely go back for happy hour.

The inside decor is beautiful without being a tacky disco club. The bar itself is one of the nicest bars in metairie if not new orleans. The food is decent, but needs to improve. Their main problem is that the food sometimes feels too chinese and not korean enough. I believe that in the next few months, it can expand to be a great resturant with exceptional food. Give it a chance. The sushi is also great, by the way.

What a bummer about the food. We have enough mediocre Chinese without it bleeding over into the few Korean choices as well.

give it a little time, they're still getting their feet wet.

The food is ok. The decor looks like it hasn't made up its mind yet. Service staff is not very knowledgeable of Korean cuisine. I wouldn't call it authentic but it'll do the trick conisidering the Korean options are not many. I agree with Troika though - they probably just need to get warmed up.

I've seen advertisements about Gimchi...and I've been curious too. I've "heard" that Korea House was better (probably because it's already so established), but my sources are just passing comments by people who have never been. So I'm anxious to hear from anyone who's been too!
