Philly's Best Opening in Pasadena (Del Mar Station)

My boyfriend swears by it, hope it lives up to the hype!

I've eaten at both regularly being I live in Arcadia and work in Irvine.

Fredos is hands down better imo.

I've been to the one in Whittier and the food is quite good. I love the cheese fries and sandwiches. They have the packaged desserts from Philly. It's quite yum.

          I've never tried Philly's Best, but I can't imagine it's an improvement over Fredo's.

An improvement? Probably not, although I've never tried the hoagies at Fredo's, only the cheesesteak. Philly's Best does a decent hoagie, though again not as good as others in Pasadena. Then again, for Gold Line convenience, it can't be beat!

A decade ago one had to search far and wide for a decent cheesesteak in SoCal; I consider all of these options to be a blessing of riches.

The cheesesteak at Fredo's is wonderful, but that Amoroso roll they're so damn proud of is a disaster in the hoagies. Like trying to gnaw through a bath sponge! Soft roll and leathery crust work OK when there are hot, moist ingredients inside, but ghastly in a cold sandwich. If you're in that neighborhood and want a hoagie or sub, go another couple of blocks north to Pietro's, next to the Roma Deli at North Lake and Mountain. Really good, even though their bread is a tad chewy, too. Not quite as good (or cheap!) as the subs from Claro's, but then you don't have to go to Arcadia, either...and you can get a beer if you want.

Let me guess. You aren't from Philly as you would know that Amoroso's is the choice roll for both cheesesteaks and hoagies. To be quite frank, both are subpar from outside of Phillly
