Best New Seafood Restaurant? Who knows...

  • 1

Based on a review in the Washington Post Magazine, I went to Hooked, a new seafood/sushi restaurant in Sterling, Virginia of all places (Although the locals around there, want to call that area Potomac Falls. God forbid that they associate themselves with Sterling). Being that I grew up in Sterling all of my life, most of the restaurants in Sterling or surrounding areas, are chains. If they are not chains, the restaurants are usually of "questionable quality".

Now Hooked comes into place. Really, really, really good seafood. I had my first sushi experience there, and loved it. I was always wary of sushi, because I didn't trust the ingredients or the chef. But their ingredients are very fresh, and the chef was as personable as he was skilled. I actually ordered two sushi dishes that night with no fear.

I ordered their crab cake sandwich. I have eaten my share of crabcakes in this area. From Phillips to Timbuktu in Ellicott City, Maryland, to Shoreline Seafood in Crofton, Maryland, to Clydes in Reston, VA. Hooked has the best crabcake sandwich...bar none!!! Absolutely no filler. Cooked to perfection. And...the crabcake is not seasoned. They want the crab to speak for itself. Sweet, lump crabmeat, and all you do is season it with lemon juice, and put some of their wonderful tartar sauce on the crab...that's it. My fiance' had their "catch of the day" sandwich, which that night was halibut. Again, cooked to utter perfection. It was like a big, thick piece of cake. Wonderful.

The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is quirky, yet warm. I am just happy to see a restaurant of this quality end up in my neck of the woods.

  1. Please be warned that this is an extremely small restaurant that has limited seating at tables and the dining room is dominated by a large sushi counter. Even if you make a reservation, that does not mean you will be seated at a table. The first time I went there, we sat at a table and the food was good. Unfortunately, the dining room is lacking in atmosphere. We then tried take out a few months later based on the Post review. We were very disappointed, plus it was very expensive.
