UES restaurant for group
I'm looking for restaurant for Friday (late on this, I know) for a group of 8 people. I want something nice, but not too expensive since my parents will be footing the bill. I was considering Cafe d'Alsace, but looks like it's too late to get a reservation there. Up in the 80s or 90s would be preferable. Also considering Don Pedro's or maybe Ithaka. Type of food doesn't matter too much, although sushi is probably out. Thanks.
Le Refuge on 82nd bet. Lex and 3rd Aves may be able to accomodate you. It's a French bistro, they have different rooms. I have been there many times and always had a god meal.
Also Joanna on 92nd and Madison. The room is large and they have big tables. I think the food is just average, but if you can't get a reservation anywhere else it might be an option.
Toot - I agree with you about Joanna - I thought of mentioning it because of the tables, and would also suggest it only as a last resort. I think the food is very expensive for the mediocre quality, though they do seem to have some sort of prix fixe these days.
I've seen large groups at Zebu Grill, but it can get awfully noisy. Of course, so can Cafe d'Alsace. Have you tried Square Meal, by any chance?
I've had some lovely meals lately at Square Meal, on E. 92nd and I think they *might* have a table that would fit 8. It's also BYOB (there's K&D wines a couple of blocks up Madison), which would help with the tab. Here's a link to a recent review of mine (which also has links to prior reviews):
Last I checked, their website did not have a menu on it - a lot things change daily.
