I have a hankering for my grannys breakfast when I go into town this weekend

There is no biscuits and gray in my neck of Connectut outside of a Cracker Barrel,,,,(*-<

Clinton St. Bakery makes a mean biscuit. Shockingly, the biscuit 'n gravy sliders at The Stanton Social are delish...white gravy with big chunks of sausage! There's also the Delta Grill.

Home has good biscuits and gravy (by this KY native's standards) though they do a healthier-than-grandma's rendition using chicken sausage.

And Neptune Room does a mighty tasty fancier-than-grandma's plate of biscuits and gravy.

I know, any attempt at lowering the fat content is shocking, really, but the gravy somehow isn't too shoddy.

Truth be told, it doesn't taste like my granny's but that may be a good thing given that she's much better at making stuff like this:

Great Jones Cafe has a smothered eggs that includes a biscuit. Will be a little tough to get a seat Sunday morning, but you can always wait at the bar and enjoy a great bloody mary.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Stone Park Cafe in Park Slope, 5th ave and 3rd St.
Biscuits are thick, chewy and dense, but still soft in the center and flakey on top,. The Gravy is meaty and thick, and well seasoned with black pepper! throw in two OE eggs a splash of hot sauce and WATCH OUT! Some of, if not the consistently best in the city. Better than Char #4's version, Even Virgil's which is more than decent, def better than Alias in LES, and slightly ahead of Clinton St..

I love Stone Park Cafe too! If you want to stay in Manhattan - Good Enough to Eat has great biscuits and gravy and I also like Whym's version as well (with cheddar biscuits)
