smoked barbecued cod
Where can I purchase smoked BBQ cod like you find in Jewish Deli? west valley or better in ventura county---seems hard to get HELP!!!!!!

Hi everyone, a couple years ago the owner of Label's Table told me that the last producer of barbequed cod stopped making it. I actually teared up. Apparently all the alte kakers passed away and the younger generations weren't buying it. It wasn't as popular as lox and very expensive and they just weren't buying it. SIGH. My favorite food, wiped off the face of the earth.

re: SIMIHOUND
Oh geez. I had no idea this was an endangered food!
I was in Ohio a few months back, got a deli platter and - there it was. Barbecued cod, the fish of my childhood and, fabulous.
Now I need to head to Brent's to try theirs.
And it makes me wonder - what else do they make from scratch, fishwise?

re: SIMIHOUND
Brent's BBQ Cod is wonderful, always very most, tender and fresh. The reason they make the cod is because they had trouble finding a supplier on the west coast. Their smoked fish plates are also so good and generous too (Super Fish Buffet For Two Combination Plate (Enough for Two) Lox, Cod, Whitefish and Cream Cheese with 4 Bagels. Best deli in the LA area.

Sorry to say it's nowhere near the West Valley, but Quality Seafood smokes their own fish, including black cod (sablefish). It's cut into steaks, then hot smoked. Delicious. I think this is what you're looking for, because I'm unclear on what "smoked BBQ cod" is supposed to be.
I've got a writeup w/ photo of the black cod on my blog:
