Where to buy fresh black truffles in the Bay Area?

I want to buy some black truffles (tuber melanosporum) for Valentine's Day...anyone know where I can buy this?

Thank you!

The Pasta Shop imports truffles once in a while, but before they get a shipment they send out a blast to their truffle email list and people can reserve them. I haven't gotten a blast in a while, so I don't think they have any shipments coming soon.

This is a good way to do it, since you know you're getting as fresh a truffle as possible, but it doesn't work when you want a truffle on a particular day.

The Pasta Shop sometimes imports white truffles directly, but I believe they get their black truffles from a distributor. They're not as perishable, much less problematic than the white.

If all else fails, check out The King of Mushrooms:

      http://www.kingofmushrooms.com/index....

he does wholesale (and some retail) of mushrooms, including truffles. Todd supplies many of the better restaurants in the Bay Area, so whatever that means to you about quality.....
I know him from a completely different part of his life. (FYI)

Polarica and Monterey Market sometimes have them. Call first.

        Watch out for Oregon truffles.

Far West Funghi at the Ferry Building. Have also seen them at Sigona's in Palo Alto.
