Ground buffalo in the Eastbay?

Ground buffalo in the Eastbay?

Who has the best ground buffalo in the Eastbay?

On a regular basis.

  1. Prather Ranch at the Sat Lake Merritt and Sunday Temescal Farmers' Markets has a regular supply of buffalo. I believe they carry ground buffalo, but I can't confidently state that they always have it.

    1. Don't know if it is the best but Whole Foods and Berkeley Bowl carries it.

      1. Baron's Meats in Alameda always has it (unless they're sold out), and presumably their Berkeley store has it as well. I really like it: it's flavorful despite being low in fat.

Just wanted to note that the Berkeley location is housed within Star Grocery.

        2. I believe that Trader Joe's has in in the frozen food section.

They do -- I was going to mention that. Although IIRC it's already formed into patties.

          2. Don't know if it's the best, but the Safeway on Shattuck in Berkeley always has ground buffalo.

The ground buffalo that I used to buy from the Safeway on Solano was pre-packed in one-pound packages. It always made tasty burgers.

I meant was it vacuum sealed at an outside plant or just Safeway wrapped
similar to their hamburger. Just trying to get a feel as to how long it may have been exposed to air.

                  1. re: wolfe

It is sold fresh and appears to have been sealed at an outside plant.

                2. re: wolfe

It appeared to be pre-packaged at its origin, not packed there at the Safeway store.
