Kleinburg-Lunch or Dinner
We're heading to the McMichael art gallery for a day trip in the next month or so. We're interested in lunch or dinner recommendations for Kleinburg or the surrounding area. Apart from the McMichael, I don't know the area very well at all but have heard rumours of good eating. No constraints, just good food for the two of us; either lunch or dinner.
Thanks!

Both The Doctor's House and Chartreuse are good for lunch or dinner, and both offer the option of either an upscale dining room or more casual pub. The Doctor's House is particularly lovely in the warmer months with its gardens and patio. I haven't been in a few years though so someone who has been more recently might have further comment.

There used to be a place called Mr. McGregor's Tea House. It was a cute little restaurant in an old house, with a lovely garden out back, and it sold yummy baked goods and good home-cooked items (eg. chicken pot pie). It was more of a lunch place than a dinner place. My SO and I went up to Kleinburg this past summer (or fall?), and I was really looking forward to having a nice lunch in their garden. To my dismay, it was closed. They appeared to be undergoing some renos, but I couldn't tell if it was a whole new business going in, or if Mr. McGregor's would be re-opening -- hopefully the latter and, if so, maybe they'll be re-open by now.
We had a really hard time finding an appealing alternate spot, and ended up at a new Italian sandwich shop a block or so up the road. It was actually pretty tasty (had salads and paninis), but it was somewhat lacking in atmosphere (plus, it was self-service). There's also the Doctor's House, which is higher-end, but I have no idea whether the food's any good (plus, if you're like me, you'll be deterred by the presence of zillions of wedding parties). Your best bet may be just to stick with McMichael, or hopefully some other Chowhounder can steer you in the right direction.
