Brad's Takeout + Eatery - Roncesvalles
We went there for brunch today. I had the breakfast croissant which comes with cheese and egg on it. a side of bacon and real potato seasoned home fries. My boyfriend had the pancakes with blueberries and a side of sausage. The sausage was so good we ordered a second side order. Fair trade organic coffee. Prices are good. Service is good. It is a place to check out.

Had a simply great brunch here on Sunday. Big beautiful plates of breakfast food - four of us had - eggs benny with smoked salmon on potato rosti - nice lemony hollandaise; buttermilk pancakes with (rea//wild) blueberry compote; challah french toast with walnuts and blueberries; and three eggs, bacon, homefries, toast plate (I usually hate homefries - these were nice crunchy red spuds with smoked paprika. good low-key efficient service, good coffee, good fresh OJ, nice space. Check it out - let's help this good one last!!! (Plan to try it for some takout sometime soon. Early evening hours may prove challenging for them but time will tell.)

Definitely going to try it out. What kind of dinner menu?
Is there a website?

We've been twice so far for brunch and the meals have been good, but not spectacular. Still, this is leagues beyond the craptacular Freshwood Grill so I'm happy to have another option in the 'hood.
B at Dundas and Roncesvalles is an awesome option, though it's quite small and can be crowded on the weekends.

5andman - I haven't had dinner there, and evening hours are very early so don't know how this will play. I had a takeout beet salad with chevre and pitachios the other day - very nice. Menu Dinner options appear to be mainly sandwiches, roast chicken, burgers, salmon and several salads of the day. This isn't trying to be haute dining - so one needs to go with the appropriate expectations. Ditto on Freshwood - such a disappointment after a promising start a few years back. anyone on Roncy tried abstract tree yet - guess that's a separate post.

Ditto on Freshwood, no consistency, food has gone downhill since the first year, no longer using 'freshwood' and, rarely using fresh anything it seems. Well, the staff is fresh, every week it seems, never see the same people there more than a few times before theres a new staff. Could be why the food is so bad every time.

Does anyone know who Brad is?

We eat at Brad's quite often. I just tried the crepes filled with mushrooms, spinach and pureed white beans baked in a tomato bechamel sauce and asiago cheese and it was delicious. The bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese etc is very tasty too.
He has unique pasta or grain- based salads with lots of veggies--different ones all the time during the week. In adddition to his regular menus he has specials for lunch or dinner during the week. He is now open later for dinner until 10 pm, but I'm not sure if it's open for dinner on Sat/Sun. He also offers a nice selection of beer and wine now.

When I went to Brad's they had a special all-week brunch menu. The eggs benny were overpriced and dry. Since there were only two customers in the whole place to cook for, I was disappointed. Not going back.

standard eggs benny, homemade hollandaise, poached softish to medium, really not bad and only $11-hardly overpriced.

The coffee is weak at Brad's!! The food is okay, but the service is not great. I don't eat eggs, and getting any of the meals simply without eggs feels like a bit of an ordeal, weirdly. Dinner there is awkward as the decor feels so much like a breakfast place and they don't really have salads or appetizers. The menu is odd. I do like the food, but I don't feel fully comfortable at Brad's, for some reason.

Had lunch there for the first time recently. Although the food was good, the attitude of the staff was very disappointing - any special requests (i.e. half-fries, half-salad) were met with disdain: "That will be a dollar fifty extra because we charge for indecision"...A simple "I'm sorry - we don't do that here" would have sufficed. For my money, Easy Restaurant on Queen St. with its excellent food (including half-fries/half-salad), always-pleasant and approachable staff, not to mention delicious coffee, continues to be the best in the hood.

Easy is NOT the best resto in the hood, especially when you get overcooked baguette as 'toast', i'm glad you like it. brads may not be the best either but the food is olid and the service is usually quite good. given that this is your first post here-what other restos have you tried in the hood and how would you rate them?

it is apparent that the easy owner doens't even like his customers for the most part if you read his never updated blog
also i haven't been back to see that they have actually added fries (other than their over paprika'd potatoes that are more steamed then fried) to their menu

I enjoy the food at Brad's but I also had a strange service experience there — I went for brunch and asked for the bacon + eggs meal minus the eggs, with extra fruit or something instead and the woman looked at me like i was a total idiot, then made me order the bacon, potatoes, fruit and toast all as separate side dishes and served me my "meal" with all these tiny plates of food at a price way exceeding what my original request had been. At Mitzi's I always ask for the breakfast special without eggs and with additional fruit instead, and they never even bat an eyelash! Accommodating simple, reasonable requests should be the service norm. Also, I don't like the coffee at Brad's. Too watery. I like Easy well enough. The service is friendly and the food is decent. But I am a Mitzi's girl through and through! The strong coffee! The great service! The delicious fishcakes! Love it.
Our experience having dinner at Brad's was much better than the brunch. The space and menu are a bit awkward, but the food, again, was yummy, and the wine was spectacular. The service at dinner was a little more welcoming/accommodating.

Fruit is more expensive than eggs, so i can understand why they wouldn't allow your request. Although they should've given you the option of switching at a surcharge.

Yes. Or they could have given me less fruit (not like I demanded an obscene amount — an extra three grapes would have made me happy). Or they could have given me the option to simply subtract the eggs from the meal rather than leave me juggling all these annoying tiny plates of food!
Breakfast is the main meal I eat out in this neighbourhood — they lost a potential regular on that one, as well as a great source of word-of-mouth recommendations. I can't tell you how many people I've sent to Mitzi's!
