<content>In December Khana Peena on Oxford when from a buffet to a restaurant serving food in the $1 - $1.99 price range. Same owners.

Normaly this kind of thing would have me at their door ... however, I'm not much of an Indian food fan. Also, I'm not in that nabe much.

So anyone tried it?

Yelp is all over the place and actually pretty funny, but not very informative.

Here's this week's East Bay Express review which also talks about other cheap eats
http://www.eastbayexpress.com/restaurants/the_other_fast_food/Content?oid=637372

Link to website with the menu is on the place record. It seems that to take the food out from the restaurant there is a $10 minimum. What's that about?

From the East Bay Express review ...

"The Aggarwals plan to expand their menu, eventually serving thirty different types of housemade nan."

<content>RW, I tried it today 5/31/08 for lunch. I thought it was just ok, I probably won't go back.

It's next to Ben and Jerry's, up the street from Downtown Berkeley Bart -walking distance.

You order at the cashier &amp; then pick up the food when it's ready.

We got:

Chicken tiki masala $1.99 -small bowl of it, lots of chunks of chicken in orange sauce. tasted ok.
dal soup $1 - nasty tasting. Don't get this!
garlic naan $2 ea x 2 = $4 = fine, we each got one order that comes cut up in slices like pizza.
lamb saag $1.99 -chunks of lamb &amp; spinach was pretty good.
potato &amp; green beans $1 -boring, just ok.

subtotal $9.98
tax .87
total $10.85

If u want to use credit card they have a minimum $5

Tap beer $1; wine per glass $1.99. .50c extra for to go orders.

One unisex bathroom in the other side of the restaurant. They have an upstairs &amp; 2 small dining areas, one of the left, one on the right overlooking the main dining room.
