Good fish store in Rockland or vicinity

We're staying with my in-laws while our apartment is being renovated, and I'm trying to do my share of cooking the meals. I cook a lot of fish, and so far have been getting it from Rockland Seafood, which is my mother-in-law's customary shop. I haven't been thrilled with their selection and quality, and was wondering if anyone knew of any better options within a reasonable driving distance. Or do any of the supermarkets have exceptional fish counters? My wife and I were living in Astoria, and I now realize how lucky we were with the multiple fish and seafood options there. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  1. Anchor Seafood on Kinderkamack Road( continuation of 304 ine Rockland) in Park Ridge, NJ has a great selection. He makes great crab cakes and chowder too.

    1. You might try Gilligans
366 Route 202, Pomona, NY 10970 off of exist 13 on the Palisades Pkwy. Its a combination of a seafood restaurant and fish market in the front of the building. I have not tried the fish market but I have tried the restaurant and have had the Signature Crab cake for dinner and I love it. I have had some fish entrees and though the portions were small to match the restaurants low prices, the fish was definitely fresh. I would assume the fish market would have very fresh fish since the restaurant is always busy.

      1. I agree with the Gillian's recommendation...the fish store is actually called C&M and the restaurant is called Gilligans. I have had their fish and the quality is high. Also consider Stew Leonards in Yonkers for variety.

        1. The Journal News re-publisjed a story on fish stores see attached link.
