Pete's tavern good for a beer but that is it.....

I recently went into Pete's for some light dinner before a show at Irving Plaza. Now the last time I ventured into Pete's was probably about 7 years ago and based upon the Zagat review, there are large portions and a mix of Italian and pub style fare. I agree the portions were large, but the food was barely edible. The burger was decent, but there are plenty of places to snag some beef on a bun. My wife's eggplant was horrific. About the only positive aspect was the table service which was run by well seasoned waiters/waitresses. Even the bartender had to remember if it was 2 or 3 beers that I had and it was not that busy for a Wednesday night. My advice skip the place and venture over to the town tavern or somewhere else.

  1. I haven't been to Pete's in probably 7 years, but it was never anything more than a utilitarian neighborhood pub. Don't believe anything in Zagat.

    1. Agreed. Thankfully, both Old Town and Molly's are within spitting distance.

      1. Well you're lucky if the burger was even decent.

I don't remember it being much better 7 years ago, which was the last time I gave the place a chance. I do know people who swear by the prime rib dinner specials, and make it a regular eating destination for friday nights. I can't even imagine.
