Could you be talking about Vienna Inn? They have good chili dogs.

Yea, I'd guess you mean the Vienna Inn. Good dogs, but beware, it's a dive...as I think good chili places should be.

There's a Hard Times Cafe in Herndon, but I don't know if I'd go out of the way to get their chili.

Recently went to Vienna Inn. It was my third visit in the last 5 years. Each time I've had their chili dogs. I know it's a cheap dive but I've never had such flavorless hotdogs before. The chili tasted fine but the hotdogs themselves had a mushy texture and no taste. I would definitely pay more for tastier dogs.

Chili and the Vienna Inn are synonymous.

But the solution to your mushy dog is Del Marei Grill in Alexandria. As it turns out, the chef-owner's wife is the grand daughter of the Abraham family who started the Vienna Inn many years ago. As a tribute to the Abraham family, the chef-owner at Del Merei travels to Vienna once a week for about 40 lbs. of the original chili, and he serves a version of the Vienna Inn chili dog at the bar at Del Merei. He replaced the tired old white bun at the Vienna Inn with a potato bun, and he grills the hot dogs instead of beer-steaming them. Other than that, it's the Vienna Inn chili dog at Del Merei.
