restaurant suggestions for parents bday

I am going to be buying my parents a $100 gift cert to a restaurant in bklyn, but I don't live in bklyn and have no idea whats good.

so, if anyone has any suggestions for a really good place (italian or new american) I'd love to hear about it.

I was thinking the bklyn heights section or park slope area's have some good places...

thanks in advance.,

  1. I have no idea if they issue gift certificates, but Al di La on 5th Ave (I think on the corner of Carroll St) in Park Slope is very good and I think they would appreciate it. I think that they would be described as northern Italian. One problem is that they are nearly always crowded and don't accept reservations. The best bet is to go just after they open, and it will work out. I can't remember if they open at 5 or 6.

    1. I'd say Saul (Cobble Hill) or Applewood (Park Slope).

      1. I would suggest Tempo. Highly.

        1. Ive taken both my parents and in-laws to tempo on various occasions. Everyone always loves it. Its quieter than most places on 5th, the vibe tends to be a bit calmer and the tables aren't squished together. I highly recommend it for parents.

          1. For a quietly casual but also refined experience, Rosewater. They do sell gift certificates, and the owner emphatically told me when I stopped in for one recently that they absolutely DO NOT expire, he thinks the whole idea is preposterous. I was impressed. Also the food's excellent and space is lovely, if small, and not at all scenish. It's in the category of new American, I'd say.
