restaurant suggestions for parents bday
Hi,
I am going to be buying my parents a $100 gift cert to a restaurant in bklyn, but I don't live in bklyn and have no idea whats good.
so, if anyone has any suggestions for a really good place (italian or new american) I'd love to hear about it.
I was thinking the bklyn heights section or park slope area's have some good places...
thanks in advance.,

For a quietly casual but also refined experience, Rosewater. They do sell gift certificates, and the owner emphatically told me when I stopped in for one recently that they absolutely DO NOT expire, he thinks the whole idea is preposterous. I was impressed. Also the food's excellent and space is lovely, if small, and not at all scenish. It's in the category of new American, I'd say.

I have no idea if they issue gift certificates, but Al di La on 5th Ave (I think on the corner of Carroll St) in Park Slope is very good and I think they would appreciate it. I think that they would be described as northern Italian. One problem is that they are nearly always crowded and don't accept reservations. The best bet is to go just after they open, and it will work out. I can't remember if they open at 5 or 6.
