Cafe des Artistes
Has anybody been there recently? I'm thinking of having my birthday dinner there. I'm trying to find a nice balance between food, decor and cost: fun and cool, but not too expensive. I would be eternally grateful for other suggestions too. Thanx.
Went there a few months back. You can reserve the area in the back of the patio for a private party (it's covered). I thought it very nice. But check it out beforehand. Tell them you'd like to have a little party there. And seriously consider ordering the food for the party beforehand so that either 1. your treating everyone and there's no hassle, or 2. everyone is splitting the bill, and they know how much they will be paying so that someone who's on a budget doesn't end up subsidizing someone else's 4 course all foie gras and caviar banquet.
I've been twice and never again. The service is one of the worst in town and according to friends who went after I did, hasn't improved. The food's okay, but not worth the hassle getting it, and the strange thing about this place is that it's owned by the same people who own Mimosa, which is very well run...go figure.
