Does anyone know if there are cooking classes (evening or afternoon) available in NOLA? Love to take a cajun class in May. Will be there for about a week.

  1. There was a recent post about this topic. Search the CH board.

    1. New Orleans School of Cooking, 524 St. Louis St. in the French Quarter, offers daily (well...not sure about Sunday) classes that include lunch. Their website is http://www.nosoc.com. During your stay, you can learn to cook gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding, and pralines at this establishment. My husband and I took a class many years ago (when the business was located in the Jax Brewery) and we still use the recipes and methods learned during that fun experience.

I took a class with my daughter there a few months before 'the event' and thoroughly enjoyed it, even if it was not hands-on. Got a really good meal out of it too. Try to get in one of Big Kevin's sessions.

This IS pretty basic stuff though. If you are looking for something more advanced, the New Orleans Cokking Experience referenced below is the way to go.

      2. Also, I believe that the Savy Gourmet give classes.
Some of their lessons are available on youtube, like the making roux one.

        1. I've posted it before but here it is again- the New Orleans Cooking Experience is the best I've been to in the City. Check out their schedule to see if anything fits into your timetable.

If you do the NOCE, try for a night when the chef from Brightsens is there.
