Years ago there was a restaurant in Northridge called the Coffee Barrel. They closed and opened on Ventura in Tarzana called the Thin's Inn. They closed years ago.

They used Weight Watcher portions and values on their menus and sold take out food that followed the WW menu plans. It was all unoffical as WW did not own them. HELP..anyone know what happened. I used to eat there weekely and would take out large amounts of items. One day they were closed.

When I first met my wife-to-be, she and her mother were both regular patrons of a CHAIN of such places in Souuth LA/North Orange Counties called "Skinny Haven".

I suspect these places went under as regular restaurants in Southern California began doing highly So.-Cal.-adapted menus which actually tasted good. (try going into a breakfast place in Carolina, or in Scotland, and asking for a "tofu scramble" if you doubt the regionality of the phenom.)

My god, what a memory you brought back... My first job was as a cook in a Skinny Haven, almost 20 years ago. I only worked there for 6 months and had almost forgotten about it. I wasn't a chowhound then but still found their food incredibly lame and flavorless (IMHO).

Oh yes...I LOVED Skinny Haven in Torrance! It was really good! But I actually had a HUGE CRUSH with a couple of the waitresses there! There were some great ladies to look at while I was eating healthy! I was really sad to see the place closed after I left my company in Torrance. Always ate the salad bar.

Brings back memories of dating after my 1st marriage crashed & burned!

I don't know about Skinny Heaven, but the food at the Thin's Inn was amazingly wonderful. People not on WW would eat there.
I would also take out pints of their salad dressings and BQQ sauces, yummy desserts and french fries that were air baked and tasted just like they were deep fried. OH I MISS THAT PLACE...
...color me 10 pounds over my goal weight...
