Hmm, Indian on Silverlake Bl itself? Been in the hood for 12 years, and it must have gotten under my radar. There is the (now-controversial) Electric Lotus (the one on Vermont, NOT the one on 3rd), and Paru's over on Sunset west of Vermont, and that's about all I know of within a couple of miles

    Anyone else?

You're right, I've been in Silver Lake 15 years and never any indian in the hood. HOwever, do you remember the Afghan restaurant Magnolia on Sunset just past Silver Lake? Never went there, it looked a little scary. Does anyone remember a barbecue place that used to be on Hillhurst, just for nostalgia's sake? I find Electric Lotus to be just fine, BTW, lower prices and larger menu than the "original" on Third.

Isn't there a place on Silverlake, not far from Spaceland, very red with a picture of an elephant or a flag with one on it?

That must be Leela Thai, a mediocre but friendly Thai restaurant.

I think that another location of India's Oven located on Wilshire and Beverly will be opening soon in the Silverlake area. It will probably be under another name though.

Wilshire & Beverly? Either this means Wilshire and Bev. DRIVE, in Beverly Hills (I suspect India's Oven could make a major mint there;tere's a Hamburger Hamlet half a block south which is almost always empty at dinner time; I think it would have bellied-up but for the fact that they either own the space or have it on a very long very advantageous lease) or there's some confusion about this location, since Wilshire Bl. and Beverly Blvd. don't cross...

There are a multitude of Indian places in LA which are spin-offs, or knock-offs, of India's Oven; many have almost exactly the same menu, in almost exactly the same order... Indua's Tandoori (Pico near Crescent Heights, Burbank) comes to mind....

Indians Oven is actually on Beverly and Fuller (?, its near el coyote , west of la brea). The previous owner of India"s Oven opened Tantra in silverlake but sold it. The food hasn't been nearly as good as it was. If you want GREAT indian and are up for a 15 minute drive from silverlake, there is a place called Surya on 3rd and Crescent Heights in los angeles. the Surya special is so Yummy, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!!!

Is Agra Cafe still in the shopping center on Sunset just down from The Vista? I had a great meal there about six months ago. The Lamb Balti was especially good. http://www.agracafe.com/index.html

Tantra has a great atmosphere, but the food is not worth the price. I think it's the most expensive Indian I've ever been to.

India's Sweets & Spices on Los Feliz is pretty good. All vegeterian. You'll can get a giant meal for $6. The store connected to it has great stuff too.
