Great Korean In LA

I have friends coming in from out of town and we're looking for a great Korean restaurant. I have eaten at Chosun Galbee and think it is fabulous, but it is out of my budget right now (because of the strike) but I would still like to treat them to some authentic delicious Korean food. Any suggestions are appreciated!!

If I were budgeting I would skip the high-end BBQ joints and hit up a delish and cheap soon tofu place

I too like DIJ, but I think it might be a bit expensive. Maybe Ma Dang Gooksoo would be okay? Great kalgooksoo for a very reasonable price, IMO.

It's certainly cheaper than Chosun Galbee. But the food is just as good. The only thing it's lacking is the granite tables ; )

hmm, I wouldn't recommend Corner Place for the bbq... it's really just a precursor to their excellent cold noodles. The bulgogi we had seemed like it had been mangled (which is not to say it seemed unsanitary, but it came in sort of globs rather than thin sheets of meat). Plus the ventilation at our table was awful.

If price is a concern, there are a couple of all you can eat places that some people have said they've had good experiences at. I haven't tried myself, but do a search for Manna and/or Mu Dang San (or Ma Dung San, or something like that ... on Vermont across from Liborio market).

You might also want to check out Shik Do Rak, on Olympic. Not sure of the prices but I remember they have these package deals, which might be fun for a night out with friends... one price for a bunch of meat and alcohol and maybe extra sides.

Also, bear in mind that Corner Place will not allow you to take an order to go, nor to take any leftovers home. It's their way of guarding their recipes.

I think that is only true of their cold noodle soup. You can take home their other items. We ate there last week, and were able to take the remainder of our uncooked meat home. They wrapped it up very well, in fact.

                  I stand corrected.

Sa Rit Gol! It's one of the best Korean restaurants in the city and when I was there last week we pigged out and it came to $28 per person all inclusive (it was during the day so their prices may be higher at night.)

Park's has the highest quality meat in the city. Expect to pay about $30-$35 per person, maybe more. Check out the review here: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/445619
