Osaka (Shinsaibashi area) unique recommendations?

disneychu Feb 4, 2008 07:18 PM

I'll be in Osaka for a couple days, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for the Shinsaibashi area. I've been to Osaka before and have tried the touristy things, so I'm sort of looking for offbeat or specialty recommendations, if anyone has any input? Restaurants, cafes, speciality food stores, anything's welcome! : )

    Umenohana (http://www.bento.com/kansai/rev/8038.html ) has good tofu-based menus.
Kushinobo (http://www.bento.com/kansai/rev/8070.... ) specializes in kushiage (deep-fried skewers).

Shinsaibashi has a lot of foreign restaurants though - it might be worth taking the subway a few minutes to Umeda or Namba for more choices.

Thanks!! Those both sound great. I've been wanting to try a tofu restaurant in Kansai, so I'll have to check Umenohana out.

FYI, although its food might have roots in Kyoto cuisine, Umenohana is a big chain (and a good quality chain) with branches all over Japan, but if you're looking for an Osaka experience, you might want to expand your search for more local specialties.
