This is the response i got when I e-mailed them from their website a few weeks ago:

Thank you again for your continued interest in Fatburger. Unfortunately, the Southfield, MI location opening has been delayed until mid February 2008. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. I will follow-up with you and let you know the exact opening date when it is ready.

If hear of the opening date, I'll post it here-- If anyone reads an article with info, please post it too. I get busy and don't have time to hunt down details.

Workers inside this evening told me they'd be open in 2 weeks. I can't wait for my first egg-topped burger.

Hmm. Well, I was in yesterday and talked to the builders, and they told me it'd be open next week. I'm more prone to believe what you've heard, though, Barkis. I don't think it's going to be open to the public next week.

BTW, you do know that egg-topped burgers are available around town, don't you? Heck, all you need to do is stop by a Red Robin if a fried egg topping is all you require...but Red Robin, I've concluded, is just too darned expensive for the lack of quality that they offer, bottomless fries be darned.

Hmmm. I wouldn't be so quick to trust me, boagman ;) . I confess I didn't actually "talk" to anyone. I just held up a paper-scrap sign in the window that asked "What day will you open?". The workers looked at each other and held up two fingers and mouthed the words "two weeks". There is a chance they could have mouthed "two days". It's hard to be certain about mouthing.

The place certainly looked ready enough to open in two days. I'll check back there tomorrow to see if i misled you all.

Has anyone heard any updates on this opening? From the reviews, I am dying to get my hands on one of those burgers.

I dropped by today, and while it's looking like any day now, there still weren't any people inside (employees or otherwise), and no date was posted.

As a side note, I've been talking with some friends of mine who live out on the west coast, and they tell me that franchising has taken its toll on the quality of this chain's fare. Fair warning so that people can go in with obtainable expectations.

Any news? Their website still says "coming soon".

As of Saturday and Sunday, they're *still* not open.

Welcome to the Detroit area, where *nothing* that's viewed as good arrives here fast!

When I observed people eating inside this evening, I pulled at the front door with few bucks in hand for a burger. Alas, the door was locked. The apparent manager, however, answered and informed me that they would open to the public Friday 8am. They were just training the cooks today.

Although I'm certain I was told it would open Friday (tomorrow). Here's a link with a couple people saying it will open Wednesday.

Went today. Food is okay but certainly not worth the hour and a half we spent trying to get lunch during our 45 minute lunch hour.

Went with the wife today March 9. Went into... but didn't stay a minute. There were hordes of people waiting, a long line and people at tables with no food! All looked hungry and mighty angry.

I went the other night around 10PM and had to wait about 20 minutes. I'd suggest just waiting a couple weeks. It's nothing special. It's not bad at all...just not worth waiting that long for a burger. I would place Fatburger in between McDonald's and Red Coat Tavern.
